Mendoza, ArgentinaThis Mendoza (Valle de Uco and Lujan de Cuyo) malbec is a Paul Hobbs project, and his Californian plush hand is seen in this easily drinkable full red. Crushed plums, raspberries, soft pepper and black liquorice are carried on a velveteen palate, with soft, lightly smoky tannins buffering to a warm (14.5 percent) finish. The oak is very well handled here, highlighting rather than dominating.
