Napa Valley, California, United StatesThis wine surprised us with its purity of fruit and balance. The nose is full of dark fruit, tapenade and tobacco. The attack is firm but rich and weighty with fruit from Napa County: Rutherford AVA, Oakville AVA and the Oak Knoll District AVA. The 85/15 blend of cabernet and merlot comes off a small vintage that allowed the grapes to ripen evenly. Only 30 percent new French oak adds lushness without over-powering the fruit.
