Tolaini Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2011

Castelnuovo Berardenga, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyThe Tolaini Gran Selezione is a wine of finesse and class. The fruit is grown in the warmer Castelnuovo Berardenga area of Chianti Classico, giving the wine a touch more substance on the mid-palate without affecting its balance. The ‘08 harvest was the first vintage of the Tolaini Chianti Classico Riserva while the 2011 saw the end of the Riserva term now replaced by the Tolaini Chianti Classico Gran Selezione label. Produced only in the best years, Gran Selezione is one hundred percent sangiovese, from the organically-farmed Montebello Vineyard "numero sette”. Look for a mélange of red berries with a twist of forest floor and perfect acidity. As mentioned, the finesse and overall elegance of this wine define it, suggesting it should age well over the next decade. This spends 12 months in wood, of which seven are on the fine lees plus six months in stainless, followed by six more months in the bottle.Tasted: 06 January 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
