Tolaini Cabernet Franc 2009
Castelnuovo Berardenga, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyCabernet franc is many things but it’s not cabernet sauvignon. We know it ripens earlier, which is useful in northern climes. The aroma is a mix of leafy scents and black fruits. Yet no matter how big it gets, like this unreleased single bottling Tolaini, it has a lighter, gentler side than its sauvignon cousin. In Tuscany, especially Bolgheri, franc thrives in the Mediterranean heat. Deep, dense but with silky tannins, this wine will ride out a decade. It's rough around the edges but I’ll chalk that up to an unlabelled sample. Very promising and a lot of fun to drink.Tasted: 06 January 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $65.00 | 750ml | estimated retail |
