Nik Weis St. Urbans-Hof Piesporter Goldtropfchen Kabinett Riesling 2015
Mosel, GermanyThe Piesport town name has a long history of growing wine, some of which ends up as pretty ordinary stuff. That's not the case with the St. Urbans-Hof Goldtröpfchen Black Label Kabinett. The soil is heavy slate and the Weiss family farms some of the oldest vineyards in Goldtröpfchen with steep, rocky banks down to the river. The dark slate heats all day and releases its warmth all night. It’s big and rich for a Kabinett. The nose is all mineral, mixing black fruits, grapefruit and even some gooseberry. Sweet yet refined and elegant beyond its power, it finishes with a tart, lip smacking, orange/citrus fruit. Delicious.Tasted: 25 January 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $44.00 | 750ml | estimated retail |
