Maude. Mt. Maude Chardonnay 2014
Central Otago, South Island, New ZealandAfter working as winemakers in Oz, Sarah-Kate (SK) and Dan Dineen returned to her parents' Central Otago vineyard and took over the 4ha of steep, north facing, terraced slope. Planted in 1994, this Mendoza clone chardy was foot-tread, basket pressed and wild yeast fermented before time in puncheons and one new barrique. No sulphur was used until bottling unfined and unfiltered. This rich and expansive wine opens with toast, nuts and pear before spreading wide in the mouth, bedded with peach, streaked with orange rind and finishing with smoked stone on the finish.
