Giesen The Fuder Clayvin Chardonnay 2011

Marlborough, South Island, New ZealandOne of Giesen's single vineyard series, this is from Brancott Valley's Clayvin vineyard, and from organically farmed vines 19 years of age on silt loam. Whole bunch pressed, wild ferment, after settling this was sent to new 1000L German oak fuder (cigar) for 11 months to impart a lower oak to volume ratio. Beauty concentrated, earthy, flinty, structured form, with lemon pith lifting, and lemon curd weighting the palate. Ample, stony, earthy spicing mingles with echoes of clove on the finish. A substantial wine, ripe and complexed, and cellar worthy for a few more years, though the 2011 is drinking beautifully now.Tasted: 23 January 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices: NZ 48.00 NZ Producer: Giesen EstateDistributors: Charton-Hobbs
