Bench 1775 Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2013

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis full-bodied cabernet sauvignon/merlot is splashed with a little syrah, creating a savoury-edged, dark fruited and complete wine that is drinking very well now but has a year or two to develop further. Sourced from Osoyoos' Oxbow Vineyard. Savoury meats and peppery spiciness throughout the black cherry, cassis, roasted onions, espresso and earthy tobacco notes, with ample wood-grippy tannins matched by the density of the fruit. A bright acidity and moderate alcohol (13.4 percent) works well in holding freshness to a moderate, clipped finish. This spent one year in two-year-old wood. I'd love to see less safe wood and more daring freshness in the future vintages. For now, roast lamb would work.Tasted: 12 January 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
