Ravenswood Besieged 2014

Sonoma Mountain, Sonoma County, California, United StatesBesieged is a throwback to an old Italian field blend made mostly with Sonoma County fruit: petite sirah, carignane, zinfandel, syrah, barbera, alicante bouschet and mourvèdre. All play a part in forming a deep, ripe red wine. Sueded, supple tannins support sweet plums, ripe blackberry jam, black liquorice, cardamom, and chocolate covered cherries, all with a heft and density that reflects the alcohol (near 15 percent). Ten months in French oak (40 percent new) and another layer of weight texture. Rich, ripe and warm through the finish, this is a generous full-bodied red that is well suited to short ribs and or lamb chops.Tasted: 19 December 2016Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Treve RingPrices:
