Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalAlways consistent, this is twenty+ year old tinta roriz, tinta barroca, touriga franca and touriga naçional, aged in stainless steel (and five percent oak barrels). Strident tannins draw black plum, black cherry, stony cassis, espresso and quiet violets along the structured palate. Tannins are fine, but grippy, supporting the cassis fruit to a bitter black cherry and candied violets finish. Young, will refine further with a couple of years bottle age. Pour now with lamb.Tasted: 06 February 2017Tasted by: Prices:
Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalThere’s lots of passion here thanks to constant international feedback on its wines which is why it’s a consistent little red wine that packs well above its price point. The vineyards are all 20+ years old and a mix of tinta roriz, tinta barroca, touriga franca and touriga nacional. The fruit is aged in stainless steel before a splash of old vine reserva from oak barrels is added back into the blend. The key here is freshness under and over the black plum, black cherry flavours and a beautiful, stony, mineral finish. This is wine for wine drinkers. Drink now with lamb or age it through 2024. Super value.Tasted: 19 December 2016Tasted by: Prices:
