Champagne, FranceSélèque began in 1965 when Henri Sélèque planted his first plots of vines with the help of his father-in-law, Jean Bagnost, president of the Pierry wine cooperative. Henri's son Richard moved the winery into the modern era, and since 2008 third gen Jean-Marc oversees the estate, based in the Coteaux Sud d’Epernay. Since Jean-Marc arrived, no herbicides have been used at the estate. For this cuvée, fruit from seven villages across the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs, namely Pierry, Moussy, Epernay, Mardeuil, Dizy, Boursault and Vertus, half of which are farmed biodynamically. With minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery, this is a blend of 50/40/10 chardonnay/pinot meunier/pinot noir, primarily stainless with full MLF (a small amount was fermented in oak, with no MLF). This uses 50% reserve wines, and went into the bottle with no fining or filtration. This bottle was disgorged November 2021 with 2 g/L. Lovely expansiveness on the core, with creamy red and green apples, perfumed lemon rinsed with a chalky, saline wash. Friendly, and smart.Tasted: 10 June 2023Tasted by: Prices:

Framed by a green apple brace, this tight champagne skips lemon, red apple, light meringue along the medium palate, finishing with bitter lemon and a saline wash. Tight and nimble.Tasted: 09 November 2022Tasted by: Prices:

However, ten percent is fermented in oak, sans MLF. It went into the bottle with no fining or filtration. This was based on the 2017 vintage, accompanied by 50% reserve wines in large tanks and wood casks as a perpetual reserve dating back to 2000. This spent 18 months on lees and was disgorged in October 2019 with 2.5g/L. Tight and focused, with red apple, green apple, lemon pith and mineral salts on a nimble palate, etched with a deep bed of chalk, and lingering with cherry and red apple. Lovely, easy, friendliness throughout this serious wine. Great value.Tasted: 17 January 2021Tasted by: Prices:

With minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery, this is a blend of 50/40/10 chardonnay/pinot meunier/pinot noir, based on the 2016 vintage. The majority sees stainless and full MLF, though ten percent is fermented in oak and sees no MLF. The 30 percent reserve wines are stored in large tanks and wood casks as a perpetual reserve dating back to 2000. The whole spends 18 months on the lees before a dosage of 3 g/l and was bottled without fining or filtration. Yellow, red apples, melon, tropical fruit fill out a full, fleshy palate. This opens and carries a punch of fruit and swing of weight to a snappy finish.Tasted: 08 December 2018Tasted by: Prices:

Champagne, FranceAn impressive grower champagne, crafted with minimal intervention in the vineyard blends 50/40/10 chardonnay/pinot meunier/pinot noir from seven villages spread across the Marne Valley and the Côte des Blancs. The cuvée is based on the 2013 vintage. Ten percent is fermented in oak (no MLF) with the remainder fermented in stainless steel (full MLF). Sélèque also uses 50 percent perpetual reserve held in large casks and oak that started in 2000. The Solessence Brut spent 18 months on the lees and was disgorged March 2016 with 7 g/l dosage. Red apple, white peach, green apple, bright and crisp, with a salted biscuit depth. Great textural grip on the finish, and impressive integration between the precise acidity and the pure fruit. Characterful. Outstanding value.Tasted: 05 December 2016Tasted by: Prices:
