Champagne Drappier Grande Sendrée 2002

Champagne, FranceThis is a single vineyard champagne from a plot named Sendree, the scene of a terrible fire in 1838 (sendree is a misspelling of the French word for cinders). This is 50/50 chardonnay/pinot noir, one third of which was fermented in wood, and has spent seven years on the lees. Evident dominant autolytic character, with ample pink salts, potato chips, and bright cranberry fruit. Quite earthy and funky notes blanket toasted and rich brioche, roasted hazelnuts and honey, with an assertive richness and intensity. Over the top, and and too overtly showy for my tastes, but for those looking for a powerful and rich champagne, this could do.Tasted: 06 December 2016Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
