CedarCreek Amphora Wine Project Desert Ridge Meritage 2014

Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Amphora wine project at CedarCreek is an important step for the winery, taking its red wine from predictable to exciting. The fruit a 54/35/11 mix of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and malbec plucked from various rows of the Desert Ridge Vineyard in Osoyoos on October 23. It was aged nine months in Tuscan clay amphora on skins. There were no additives and the caps were plunged by hand. The grapes were stomped by foot and after another eight weeks in small stainless steel tanks it was bottled unfiltered without any additives. It smells like rock juice and taste like it too. We love the texture, so silky already, and so juicy with intense black fruit and spice rounding out the warm finish. It should age effortlessly but given the techniques used we are thinking it will be at its best by 2020. Steaks anyone? All 35 cases are sold out so look for this in restaurants.Tasted: 13 December 2016Tasted by: Prices:
