Meyer Family Vineyards Méthode Traditionnelle Extra Brut NV
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe latest bottling of the NV Extra Brut mixes 2016 and 2017 fruit into an 80/20 chardonnay/pinot noir blend. It opens a bit flat in spirit, although the bubbles are textbook. The aromas are a nutty, toasty, leesy mix with some baked apple and oxidative notes that sit on the fruit, leaving the finish a touch bitter. The base wine spends 18-24 months on lees before bottling for another 28 months' rest. Ready to drink.Tasted: 31 January 2022Tasted by: Prices:
Meyer Family Vineyards Méthode Traditionnelle Extra Brut NV
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWith fruit off their McLean Creek Road Vineyard in Okanagan Falls, this bottling of their NV Extra Brut is based on 2016 and 2017, and a blend of 80% chardonnay and 20% pinot noir. The fruit was whole cluster pressed and fermented in stainless, with full MLF, before the base wine spent 18-24 months on lees. It went into bottle in summer of 2018 for another 28 months' rest, and was disgorged in summer 2021 with 0 dosage. Ample dough beds baked red apple, lemon curd, toast, all cloaked with an oxidative blanket, which tamps down the fruit. Take this now with a chill.Tasted: 20 January 2022Tasted by: Prices:
Meyer Family Vineyards Méthode Traditionnelle Extra Brut NV
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe third time around and this Okanagan sparkler continues to impress. It's more Bourgogne Cremant at this point, but I’m sure they are shooting for the Champagne ring down the road. It’s a 70/30 bottle fermented fizz with two grapes they know a lot about - chardonnay and pinot noir. The mousse is tiny, and the nose quietly mineral with salty, green apple. The style is vibrant, and the palate creamy with fuzzy pear and nectarine. Frico is my new favourite sparkling wine bite. MFV's Méthode Traditionelle Extra Brut is aged on its lees for 20 months and disgorged from May 2016 through to June 2016. In lieu of dosage, this was topped up with 2014 blanc de blanc base wine and bottled unfined and unfiltered.Tasted: 01 April 2019Tasted by: Prices:
Meyer Family Vineyards Méthode Traditionnelle Extra Brut NV
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaMakes perfect sense that one of the Okanagan's chardonnay and pinot noir specialists has turned their hand to traditional method sparkling wine. MFV's Méthode Traditionelle Extra Brut sees 70 percent Chardonnay and 30 percent Pinot Noir remain for two years in stainless, undergoing full MLF, before blending and bottling for secondary fermentation under crown cap in the summer of 2014. The bottles were then aged on lees for 20 months and were disgorged from May 2016 through to June 2016. In lieu of dosage, this was topped up with 2014 blanc de blanc base wine, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Shining green apple leads this firm frame, with bright mineral, salts, citrus trailing across a bed of river stones. The lees is ever present on the creamy base, and carries an aged sheen of gingerale and spice on a prickly palate to the sharp finish. Good intensity, great acidity, and drinking well now. 550 cases made.Tasted: 11 April 2018Tasted by: Prices:
Meyer Family Vineyards Méthode Traditionnelle Extra Brut NV
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe first sparkling wine (fermented in the bottle) release from Meyer is a 70/30 blend of their two favourite grapes: chardonnay/pinot noir. The mousse is tiny and mostly persistent, the nose much like their still wines is on the less-is-more side with mineral, salty, stone green apple notes. The acidity is very bright, the style crisp, fresh and clean. The palate is creamy with similar flavours, if not a hint more, of pear and nectarine fruits that finish with the illusion of sweetness. Food friendly and ready to drink.Tasted: 28 November 2016Tasted by: Prices:
