Savage Wines Follow The Line 2015
Western Cape, South AfricaI could smell this characterful wine for ages. Duncan Savage (one of the Zoo Biscuits gang) sources fruit from maritime vineyards, typically at altitude, for his low-interventionist wines. This is a blend of cinsault, grenache and syrah from Darling and Piekenierskloof, of which 20 percent goes whole bunch into large format French oak. The 2015 Follow The Line is very pinot-like, with subtle earthen forest, subois, wild mushroom on first whiff, before light, delicate, raspberry blossom perfume. The core, however, is grounded, pure, and authentic, with cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, and a fine, steady grip of sandy-textured tannins. Whiffs of light smoke and minerality echo throughout to a lingering, appealing sea salt finish. Softer than the previous vintage, and still effortlessly drinkable; best enjoyed over the course of an evening.Tasted: 28 October 2016Tasted by: Prices:BC | $45.00 | 750ml | private wine shops |
