Radford Dale Black Rock 2013

Swartland, Coastal Region, South AfricaThe Winery of Good Hope is a collective of different labels and combination of vintners, founded in 1998. The group came together to respect the winemaking traditions of Stellenbosch, Elgin and Swartland, while combining them with modern methods. Radford Dale is one label in the collective that works with Rhone varieties. Here old, dry farmed, granite soiled, bush vines of syrah, cinsault, carignan, grenache, mouvedre and viognier, were destemmed and lightly crushed before being cofermented in vats of varying sizes, and then barrel aged for 16 months. The wine remained on its lees for the whole time, practically eliminating the need for sulphur. An authentic natural wine, following the traditions of the past, perfect for the drinker of today. Fresh, bright and finely textured, with dusty stone, wild plum, herbal anise, crunchy acidity and subtle dusky florals. Tannins are fine, supple and lithe, and acidity is vibrant throughout. Characterful, interesting and effortlessly drinkable.Tasted: 28 October 2016Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
