Palacio del Burgo Rioja Reserva 2010
Rioja Alavesa, Rioja, SpainFrom a 1950’s cooperative to an estate in 1987, Palacio del Burgo farms some 200 hectares, 90 percent of which is red grapes in the Baja. In 2010 the blend is 85/10/5 tempranillo, garnacha, mazuelo (or carignan). Older vines, more than 30 years, give the wine a silky sheen and fine texture. This is modern Rioja with clean berries dominating on the nose, lots of red fruit and very fresh acidity. Juicy mineral notes are a pleasant surprise for the price and the origin.
