Joseph Phelps Chardonnay Freestone Vineyards 2014

Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County, California, United StatesThis wine gets better every year with a little less oak and a little less time in wood. It’s 100 percent estate-grown at Freestone Vineyards. The current year spent 13 months in a mix of new (35 percent) and used oak, two- to three-year-old French oak puncheons and barrels. The fruit is night-picked and whole cluster pressed directly to barrel for fermentation. The barrels are stirred to suspend the lees during malolactic fermentation and the wines get racked once before bottling. The nose, as per usual, is packed with floral, mineral, seashore notes that spill onto the palate. Add citrus, green apple fruit and a dusting of lees and you have a magical white. An impressive modern California chardonnay that is very food friendly. Think lobster, squash ravioli, halibut and much more.Tasted: 04 October 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
