Concha y Toro Marqués de Casa Concha Old Vines /Dry Farmed Pais Cinsault 2015
Valle de Cauquenes, Valle del Maule, Region del Valle Central, ChileOld Vines Dry Farmed País Cinsault is a 12 percent alcohol red blend that pays homage to the history of Chilean wine. The país, first brought to Chile from the Canary Islands in the mid-1500s, is from Cauquenes in the Maule Valley. The cinsault comes from further south at Trehuaco in the Itata Valley. Both grapes are grown close to the sea at +500 foot elevations the former from 100-year-old vines, the latter from 50-year-old vineyards. The nose is reminiscent of Beaujolais thanks to a carbonic maceration and freshness that seems to intensify its obvious candied cherry notes, mixed with raspberries and black currants. Fresh and light bodied, this is a delicious drinking wine for chicken dishes, steamed mussels and tapas. Winemaker Marcelo Papa fought to get this wine in the Marques de casa Concha lineup so that the price would be significant enough to confer a serious demeanour to the wine. Well done.Tasted: 26 October 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:US | $20.00 | 750ml | estimated retail price |
