Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaOne of the memorable wines tasted at Vancouver Wine Fest 2017. Tight pear, yellow apple, salted hazelnut is streamlined and framed by a stony minerality, based with a clay-anchored cushion of earthy lees. Tangerine blossoms scent throughout and linger on the finish. Finessed and polished. Organically grown, this was whole cluster pressed before a long wild ferment in French oak (20 percent new) and 16-20 months aging stint.Tasted: 23 February 2017Tasted by: Prices:
Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaDough, hazelnut and thick, creamy lees forms the base of this full and rich Niagara chardonnay, anchored with clay soils and brightened by limestone minerality. Lemon curd, baked yellow apple, toasted popcorn dominate this intense, full and showy chard, while a bead of lemon peel acidity counters. Organically grown on silty-clay, limestone laced soils, this was whole cluster pressed before a long wild ferment in French oak (20 percent new) and 16-20 months aging stint. Domaine Queylus is a spare-no-expense project of friends, consisting of 16ha spread over three appellations, with lauded winemaker Thomas Bachelder at the helm.Tasted: 25 August 2016Tasted by: Prices:
