Hillside Muscat Ottonel 2015

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaMuscat Ottonel was the first grape variety planted at the original Hillside farmgate winery and now boasts over 30 years of time in the ground. There is not a lot of this wine but it’s sensational, especially since winemaker Kathy Malone intervened in the vineyard to give these old vines some extra care before stepping back in the winery to let the grapes express what they had by themselves. All floral and spice, this is classic muscat ottonel that would shock a lot of Europeans with its authenticity. The grapes are hand harvested at a modest 21.5° Brix, handled gently with some skin contact before a long slow ferment – just what the doctor ordered. It ends with a touch of residual sugar, for an off-dry finish. Look for a floral, spicy, orange, ginger aromas that preview a delicate, sophisticated, elegantly-styled muscat awash in green apple, minty, rosewater flavours. The finish tastes like more. Try this with a light fish dish or a favourite sushi role. Bravo.Tasted: 22 July 2016Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
