Hawkes Bay, North Island, New ZealandCracked stone, lemon curd and white blossoms ring on this Hawke's Bay chardonnay, from New Zealand's oldest winery (founded 1851). Restrained, perfumed pear, toast and ample stoniness continues on the full bodied palate, one amplified by whole bunch pressing, barrel fermentation (partial wild yeast, partial new oak, partial MLF) and time on the lees. The winemaking sits on top of the clear orchard fruit at present yielding some clunkiness, though bright tangerine pith and trailing tropical citrus fruits charm.
