Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA first release from four-year-old vines grown on rocky soils, essentially washed down off Mt. Kobau, this first ‘Golden Mile Bench’ Oldfield Series Chardonnay was made by Australian Andrew Windsor. The nose is a mix of citrus, flowers, honey and oak, with hints of caramel, vanilla and cream. The attack is rich and round with nutty, honey, pineapple and citrus that finishes with apple pie crust. This treads the new and old style, but keeps a decent linear edge along with fine complexity and length. This is grown-up Tinhorn chardonnay that can pair with grilled halibut or Dungeness crab. Barrel fermented in French oak barrels, this was aged 12 months in 50/50 oak and stainless steel barrels.Tasted: 29 March 2017Tasted by: Prices:

Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRipe, full and bold, this young chardonnay (four-year-old vines) carries overt wood and cream throughout its rich frame. Sweeter smoke, cloves, baked caramel apple pie and marzipan ride through to the finish. Rich and potent, this Golden Mile fruit was fermented wild in 100 percent new French oak, before 50 percent aged in the oak and the other in stainless for sixteen months. So much influence from the wood here, it's hard to clear through to the beautiful fruit, but time in bottle should assist.Tasted: 09 August 2016Tasted by: Prices:

Kobau the first Golden Mile Bench chardonnay released by Tinhorn and made by winemaker Andrew Windsor is very good. The colour is a touch yellow but the style is as fresh as it is rich. The nose is a mix of citrus, flowers, honey and oak with a hint of caramel all of which previews a tighter, more linear fresh flavour profile of nutty, flinty, apple/lemon/pineapple and what the winery is saying finishes with “marzipan and biscotti”. I like the complexity and length. This Tinhorn chardonnay is all grown up and for year one impressive. Try it with grill halibut or Dungeness crab.
