Tarragona, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainFrom the outskirts of Tarragona DO in the coastal (limestone laced lumaquela soils) Cataluña region, this 60/40 garnacha/cabernet sauvignon is intense from first whiff through lingering finish, with black liquorice, sun warmed earth, fleshy black cherry, supple leather, pipe tobacco, fragrant violets and wild scrubby herbs. Tannins are ripe and sticky, though acidity is enough to lift it from the sun-baked mire and carry to a cracked peppercorn and cherry leather finish. Wild ferment and aging in 5000L upright neutral oak adds to its wild charm.
