Champagne, FranceThe strength of any brand is its consistent quality, and that’s what you get from the Roederer Brut year in and year out. Making high-quality champagne on an immense scale is no mean feat, but it helps to be the largest independent, family-owned and managed house (founded in 1776), managing more than 235ha of prime vineyards which supply 75 percent of its needs. Brut Premier is a 35/38/28 mix of pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier, with 25 percent reserve wines aged in oak casks for 2-8 years. The blend spends 36 months on its lees. Roederer is all about elegance mixed with toasted hazelnuts, brioche, Meyer lemon, and a splash of saltwater. The finish is fresh and seems to linger forever. Dependably good.Tasted: 02 November 2019Tasted by: Prices:

Champagne, FranceRoederer is an amazing accomplishment: progressive, classic, innovative and traditional, with very high quality on a very large scale. This is the largest independent, family-owned and managed house (founded in 1776), managing more than 235ha of prime vineyards which supply 75 percent of its needs. Of that, more than two-thirds are Grand Cru fruit. Their vintage wines are from their estate properties, and this flagship Brut Premier NV (also, their entry level) is also primarily estate fruit. This is a 35/38/28 mix of pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier, incorporating 25 percent reserve wines dating back to 2006. Said reserve wines rest in oak casks for 2-8 years before incorporation into the blends, one of the keys to the house style. This spends three years on the lees, and undergoes 40 percent MLF (but never MLF for Chardonnay). You can use the code on the back of the label to look up the dates on your particular bottle. Mine was based on 2013, bottled in 2014, and disgorged in 2017. Elegant, as ever, with toasted hazelnuts, brioche, Meyer lemon pith, salted lemon peel and an upright backbone of acidity that runs the long length of the palate. This lingers with an alluring shimmer, welcoming glass after glass, solo or with food. Legendary NV for a reason.Tasted: 01 November 2018Tasted by: Prices:

Champagne, FranceThe largest independent, family-owned and managed house manages more than 235ha of prime vineyards, supplying an amazing 70 percent of its needs. Of that, more than two-thirds are Grand Cru. Their vintage wines are from their estate properties, and this flagship Brut Premier NV (also their entry level) has more than 55 percent estate fruit. Orange peel, tangerine, yellow cherry with salted marzipan underpining, this is quite complex, with brioche, light nutmeg, fine salts gripping the sides. This is a 40/40/20 mix of pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier, incorporating 10 percent reserve wines (which rest in oak casks for 2-8 years). This is drawn from three harvests and spends three years on the lees with 20-25 percent MLF. Classic, and for all the right reasons, in the category of larger house NV, this shines bright and true. Drink now, and cellar-worthy.Tasted: 09 December 2017Tasted by: Prices:

Champagne, FranceThis delicious bubble continues its fine showing opening with an attractive, fragrant nose. The attack is fresh with lemony, toasted, baked apple, floral aromas. The textures are creamy but with a streak of acidity keep it fresh. The palate is mix of cherry, citrus, chalky salty mineral, biscuit notes. Always classy. The Brut Premier blend is a 40/40/20 mix of pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier and that includes 10% of reserve wine from three former harvests aged in oak casks for 2-6 years.Tasted: 31 December 2015Tasted by: Prices:

Champagne, FranceFine citrus and salted almond dominate this finessed, elegant Champagne. Fine brioche, salted Meyer lemon and fine stone build this precise wine through to the lingering finish.
