Louis Roederer Brut Premier Champagne NV

Champagne, FranceThe largest independent, family-owned and managed house manages more than 235ha of prime vineyards, supplying an amazing 70 percent of its needs. Of that, more than two-thirds are Grand Cru. Their vintage wines are from their estate properties, and this flagship Brut Premier NV (also their entry level) has more than 55 percent estate fruit. Orange peel, tangerine, yellow cherry with salted marzipan underpining, this is quite complex, with brioche, light nutmeg, fine salts gripping the sides. This is a 40/40/20 mix of pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier, incorporating 10 percent reserve wines (which rest in oak casks for 2-8 years). This is drawn from three harvests and spends three years on the lees with 20-25 percent MLF. Classic, and for all the right reasons, in the category of larger house NV, this shines bright and true. Drink now, and cellar-worthy.Tasted: 09 December 2017Tasted by: Prices:
