Golden Mile Bench, Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe '12 is a bit of conundrum; the vintage was excellent, but the cabernet content jumped up, leaving the wine with an herbaceous twinge. The palate is all about texture, texture, texture at this point, plus smoky, green olive, peppery, red/black fruit. It’s ageing gracefully and beginning to speak to its origins. Tasted October 16, 2018 at a ten-year vertical at the winery. Aged 24 months in a mix of 75/25 French/American oak. The blend is 28/34/38/ merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Aggressive campfire, burnt wood, sour cherry, baking spices and bitter black coffee rule. Tannins are wood-hewn but polished somewhat smooth.
