It strikes a beautiful balance between fresh fruit and mature notes from cask-aging, making for an impressively complex tawny with soft red fruits and orange peel, alongside spice, walnut, and seasoned wood. I love the balance, slightly drier in style (though still sweet, to be sure) with beautifully integrated alcohol, with impressive concentration and polish. A must-have for the holiday season. The residual sugar is slightly less (107g/L) than that of regular 10 YO Tawnys but sweetness from the elevated fruit concentration makes it feel sweeter and richer. Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalTaylor Fladgate's 10 Year Old Tawny is the real deal. Even at just 10 years, this isn't short on the mature, rancio notes that make tawny port so compelling. But you also get some freshness to the red fruits alongside spice and wood notes to complement the nuts and candied citrus peel. Beautifully balanced, this doesn't drink like it has 110 g/L residual sugar. So, it's easy to pour a second small glass, especially with its fine, silky tannins. After spending an average of ten years in wood the purple hues are gone and in exchange you get a mellow elegant sophisticated drink chock full of raisins nuts and chocolate but with lively acidity and a caramel honey finish.
