British Columbia, CanadaMerlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon from the southern Okanagan are sourced for this full bodied red, and spend 18 months in French barrel. Evident on the heady oak leading the nose and palate, supporting dense cassis, blackberry and black cherries, tobacco and dark cocoa. Tannins are supple and firm, and the finish lingers with sweet holiday spices and ash. A bruiser, and the heavyweight bottle even more so. I suppose the coastal winery would like a giant red to supplement its range of lively, fresh, marine-influenced whites, but it sticks out from the rest of their finessed portfolio.
