Pierre Amadieu Gigondas Le Pas de l'Aigle Rouge 2011

Gigondas, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceLe Pas de l'Aigle is the ultimate expression of terroir at Amadieu. At 400 m of altitude, the yields are minuscule allowing for the rocky site to bring a maximum amount of complexity to the blend of old vines grenache and syrah. It's all aged in 100 hl oak vats for 24 months to add roundness; its bottled unfiltered. The nose is fresh and stony with a strong mineral notes. The attack is similar with spicy, black fruits a soft dollop of vanilla with flecks of dried herbs throughout. There plenty of tannin here but it is well managed and will support another five to seven years of ageing. Game dishes are an easy match or any number of truffle dishes.Tasted: 08 October 2015Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
