Craven Wines Syrah 'Faure Vineyard' 2014

Stellenbosch, Coastal Region, South AfricaWhat happens when you plant syrah on a cool, marine influenced, super rocky site (chunks of granite, shale, quartz and dolerite), harvest sustainably, use 100 percent whole bunch and wild yeast, press off after two weeks into old wood, with low sulphur and no enzymes? This. Fresh, bright and pure, with fragrant violets, savoury broken stone, perfumed plums and precise, lifted acidity. Light in body but not in intensity, with lithe, grippy tannins framing the delicate fruit. Finely rasped black pepper lingers on the finish. Impressively quenchable 11.5 percent alcohol. Sadly not available in Canada, but R150 in RSA (which is an amazing $15 CDN!)Tasted: 29 September 2015Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
