Artesa Pinot Noir 2012

Carneros, Sonoma County, California, United StatesArtesa, a craftsman in Catalan, is a Carneros-based winery owned by Spain’s Raventos family owners of the highly respected cava house Codorníu. The property originally opened as Codorníu Napa in 1991 on a 350-acre estate; it was relaunched in 1997 at Artesa making still wines. The nose is open and inviting with a mix of spices, black tea, black cherry, and compost aromas. The attack is warm with more spice and a gentle vanilla entry with ripe, smoky strawberry jam with a twist of orange. More delicate than you might expect but still with that richer California styling. Grilled duck or BC salmon are two fine pairings.
