Jumilla, Valencia and Murcia, SpainRipe plum, leather and a puff of sweet pipe smoke open this stalwart silver label monastrell, always a consistent Spanish bet. This captures Jumilla's massive heat and generosity well, highlighting the savoury, concentrated old vines (40+ year old) grown on chalky, limestone soils. Whole cluster maceration for 25 days before a year in French oak builds in structure as well as power. Not shy, this is drinking very well now in its forth year, as the grippy, ample tannins are wearing around the edges.Tasted: 04 April 2016Tasted by: Prices:

Jumilla, Valencia and Murcia, SpainHuge black pepper nose with tobacco leaf, meaty, chocolate, plum, light vanilla and licorice aromas. Rich, ripe, round, full, juicy palate with some light, astringent tannins. The attack is warm with plum jam, black cherry, chocolate, savoury, vanilla, smoky herb, roast meat flavours. Super ripe fruit but finish is hot and somewhat tannic. Needs a few years or air it out before serving with hardy dishes. Our pick: lamb stew.Tasted: 25 August 2015Tasted by: Prices:
