They began with selling to négociant houses (including Krug) while learning the traditions and techniques for making their own fine champagne. Rounder, with deep brioche, toast and a generous pear middle, this has a light sweet smoke, nutty, red apple, citrus and guava flavours finishing with a great chalky grip. Power, with restraint. Champagne, FranceThe Milan family are fifth generation vine growers, growing grapes since 1864. This chardonnay, from Grand Cru vineyards in Oger, opens with lovely nutty toast, brioche and apple aromas. Richer and creamy on the palate with stony, red apple dominating. Very fine, lively bubbles stream over a creamy, fine lees and baked apple base. Fine lemon pith and chalk linger on the finish.
