Imagine making any other product for the market thirty years down the road. Taylor draws upon a wealth of stocks from the eastern areas of the Douro Valley, matured in seasoned oak casks seemingly forever in their cellars at Vila Nova de Gaia. The physics of the cool and damp coastal climate encourage a slow and gentle ageing process, producing an aroma of great complexity and finesse. On a broad scale, every two or three years, a reserve of Port deemed to have sufficient structure, fruit, and power to age is laid aside to age in oak casks. After thirty years, those which have reached their peak are blended for balance and finesse to ensure quality and style to age forever in the bottle. Look for a deep amber/gold colour with hints of dried fruit, nuts, butterscotch, and caramel. Silky, rich, and full of finesse, it dances on the palate forever. Maybe that’s because each barrels loses some three percent of its content every year and times that by 30 and you get a lot of evaporation. Singular vintage wines from a bunch of vintages are aged in 600-liter oak casks until they are blended together at some magical moment to look and taste like a 30 year old wine and sport an equally average age of 30 years. Expect a complex nose of spice and ground nuts and toffee. The attack is mellow but it builds from front to back offering a mix of raisin-y, crème brûlée flavours. Expect an old tawny/gold colour that previews a fresh, nutty dried fruit nose flecked with butterscotch/caramel notes. The attack is rich and smooth with a raisin-y mix of crème brûlée flavours supported by nutty coffee bean notes. You will love the silky texture and long smooth complex impressive finish.
