Il Passo Nerello Mascalese e Nero d'Avola Vigneti Zabu 2013
Sicily, ItalyThis warm, chewy blend of nerello mascalese and nero d'avola uses Sicilian sun power to naturally raisin-ate the fruit, upping its intensity. Baked plums, perfumed black currants and fig compote are the gateway to a rich palate of chocolate covered cherries, dried fig, dried cherry, leather, port-soaked citrus, clove, nutmeg and pepper. Tannins are sticky, though lifted acidity helps cut through the mire of fruit. This is not a shy wine, nor is it the most finessed. It is, however, interesting. Pour with hearty cardamom lamb tagine and couscous.Tasted: 10 July 2015Tasted by: Prices:
