Concha y Toro Marques de Casa Concha Old Vines /Dry Farmed Pais Cinsault 2014

Valle de Cauquenes, Valle del Maule, Region del Valle Central, ChileWhat is Old Vines Dry Farmed 85/15 país/cinsault? Good question. The 12 percent alcohol red blend is a nod to the past and maybe the future by winemaker Marcelo Papa. The país, first brought to Chile from the Canary Islands in the mid-1500s is from Cauquenes in the Maule Valley. The cinsault comes from further south at Trehuaco in the Itata Valley. Both grapes are grown close to the sea at +500 foot elevations the former from 100 year old vines the latter 50 years old. Think Beaujolais, carbonic maceration and freshness with obvious candied cherry notes on the nose. The body is light and lithe with more cherry berry flavours and zero oak. Simple fun and very tasty we served it slightly chilled for maximum effect.Tasted: 20 July 2015Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
