Earthy, green herbal notes, with blackcurrant, ripe black cherry and a salty, almost seaweed, flickering throughout. Green coffee, cedar boughs, cranberry, anise, bay leaf all contribute interesting complexity here, far beyond what I was expecting. Puemo, Valle del Cachapoal, Valle del Rapel, Region del Valle Central, ChileI don't wake up craving carmenère but this bottle is an amazing example of what can be done when it’s ripe and well made. Carmenère for carmenère fans plus. Love the ripe dense blackcurrant, licorice nose laced with savoury dried herb notes and pepper. The attack is warm and equally dense with cedar, tobacco, menthol, bay leaf, resin and black fruit all streaked with dark chocolate. Almost a meal in itself. Best with grilled meats.
