Arcanum 2009

Tuscany, ItalyIt’s been a while since we tasted this Tuscan wine but clearly the years have been good to the Tenuta di Arceno property now in its eleventh year under the watchful eye of California’s Jackson Family Farms. Arcanum is the head liner and 68 percent of the wine comes off two blocks of cabernet francs set within the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena. The nose is an alluring mix of violets and spice with soft red fruit undertones. The palate rich and dense with round tannins and a good dollop of Tuscan, black cherry jam, plum, tobacco and licorice. Impressive and drinkable now but this will really shine with another three to five years in bottle. The final blend contains a 22/10 addition of merlot and cabernet sauvignon. The Arcanum label is inspired by an ancient statue located on the estate, il fauno the mythological Roman god of nature, the countryside and the woods. Viticulturist and winemaker Pierre Seillan is behind the man behind the wine.Tasted: 13 July 2015Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
