Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaThis old vine shiraz is matured in French oak and Yalumba crafted American octave barrels, the latter of which offered inspiration for the wine’s name. Sourced from both Barossa (59 percent) and Eden Valley fruit, this opens alluringly with dried cassis, dried cherry and fine tobacco which carries through to the concentrated, ripe palate. Very graceful but plentiful powdery fine tannins continue to draw the rich, elegant black fruit to a very lengthy savoury dark chocolate, black liquorice and tobacco finish. Seamless presence on the palate already, and one that will continue to impress for the next decade.Tasted: 11 June 2015Tasted by: Prices:

Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaBig black berry jam, black cherry, coffee, chocolate, orange, licorice, smoky, vanilla, graphite and meat aromas with a hint of jasmine. Rich, ripe, smooth and juicy with fine concentration and tannins. Savoury, licorice, black pepper, black berry jam, coffee, vanilla, tobacco, rosemary and orange peel flavours with a chocolaty, plum finish. Long, warm, intense and rich finish with some oak showing. Drinkable now but will improve with 3-7 years. A rich, somewhat oakier style but with fine complexity and balance. Time in bottle will only add to this wines potential.
