St. Julien, Haut-Médoc, Médoc, Bordeaux, FranceI admired the perfumed, raspberry, light anise, deeper florals and woodsy cedar notes of this St.-Julien, the predominance of cabernet sauvignon (77 percent) evident, as was the whiff of (good) bret. The graceful and finessed nose carried through to the palate: black raspberry, black cherry, dark coffee and juicy acidity. Tannins are strident and youthful, and fruit is ripe though restrained, with finely rasped spice and light smoke on the lengthy finish. Will hold, knit and improve over the next two decades. St. Julien, Haut-Médoc, Médoc, Bordeaux, FranceLéoville-Barton has always been a value buy but in the last decade the jump in quality at the Chateau is marked. The 2010 mix is 73/17/10 cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc all aged in 60 percent new oak. The wine is still tightly wound five years out showing more savoury notes and monster tannins over tarry red fruits. The finish is long and tight with coffee and licorice dominating. This is a thirty year wine for sure and should be scintillating in its third decade. Wolf Blass Master Blend Classification Tasting Vancouver 2015.Tasted: 15 April 2015Tasted by: Prices:
