Teusner Avatar Grenache Mataro Shiraz 2013
Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaThe locals call Avatar the big brother to Joshua although in 2012 it has a slightly elevated amount of shiraz (30 percent) versus previous years but the grenache at 40 percent still dominates the blend bringing bright red fruit and lift to the spice and earth of the mataro (30 percent). The blend spends year in used French and American oak that support the wine but does not dominate the dense, complex Christmas cake fruit that speaks to 90 year old vines. The finish is juicy and long suggesting it will age well through 2020. Lamb chops would be a perfect match.Tasted: 15 June 2014Tasted by: Prices:BC | $40.00 | 750ml | speculative listing - Vintage West Wine Marketing |
