Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel Shiraz 2012
Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaAfter a fair bit of trial and error the folks at Jacob’s Creek went against the grain so to speak and released a shiraz (and cabernet sauvignon) that are aged 12-18 months in new and used American oak (the cab is in French oak) before ageing it a further eight months in a used, drained, and dried, whiskey barrel. The good news is almost a year down the road in bottle I did not detect any real whisky character but what I did perceived was a very big, rich, round shiraz with red and black fruit tones and plenty of spice. It is all supported by a sweet fruit centre that is as soft and as supple as it gets and that comes from the whisky barrel. Call it depth or even complexity it is an interesting twist for those who like big reds you can drink now.Tasted: 10 March 2015Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $20.00 | 750ml | specialty listing |
