Tuscany, ItalyPeppery, balsamic, meaty, black licorice, black cherry nose with leather and savoury spice aromas. Rich, full, round, juicy palate with light tannins. Smoky, meaty, peppery, savoury herb, cherry, balsamic, coffee and black tea flavours. Still youthful with good fruit but tannins to shed. Very solid for the next 2-5 years. Il Grigio da San Felice Chianti Classico Riserva 2010
Tuscany, ItalyThe top sangiovese grapes from the estate vineyards make up this Riserva, which opens with leather, dried cherry and a wave of attractive (to me at least) barnyard. The medium plus palate shows upfront wood, along with subtly medicinal cherry, saddle, dusty red currant and sweet spices. Tannins are still youthfully chewy and bitter hewn, but the ripe, warm fruit shines through, and this should continue to merge and meld for 5+ years. Pour now with rabbit or wild boar pappardelle.Tasted: 19 March 2015Tasted by: Prices:
