Nugan Estate Matriarch Shiraz 2006

McLaren Vale, South Australia, AustraliaThis was the inaugural Matriarch Shiraz, the Nugan family's benchmark McLaren Vale Shiraz. Grapes from the family's estate vineyard rested in wood for 24 months, and their top barrels (French and American mix) were selected for the final blend. Super ripe plum, sweet blackberry and minted blueberry jam on the nose. The supple, plush palate carries the same black/blue fruit, along with tart black cherry, dark chocolate, balsamic reduction and finishing with black liquorice and wood shavings on the end. Older school style with oak prominent, tannins soft, and acid adjusted to match. Drink now, with an equally plush piece of red meat.Tasted: 28 February 2015Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
