Champagne, FranceThis grower makes only 3000 cases each year, all from their 4 ha of Grand Cru vineyards in the heart of Côtes des Blancs. Cuvée St. Denis is entirely chardonnay from Avize, and 70 percent of which is Clos du Grand Père, a 75-year old vineyard, topped with 30 percent Pierre Vaudon, a 50-year-old parcel. Fermented in stainless steel, it goes through full malolactic fermentation and it rests on its lees for 48 months. Oxidative up front, with a palate blanketed with full cream and topped with pastry, marshmallow, baked apple, roasted nuts and light sweet smoke on the lengthy, minerally finish. Champagne, FranceYou have to love a champagne that mentions Danish pastries among its descriptors. The grapes, all from one Grand Cru site in Avise, the Clos du Grand Père, are 65 years old. Five years of bottle age ensure complexity and mature flavours but with freshness and floral notes. The attack is rich and creamy with nutty, toasted, Danish pastry notes some honey and baked apple all with enough citrus to keep it fresh. Impressive bottle with a sheen of minerality. Champagne, FranceMade from a single vineyard of old chardonnay vines, this has fine continuous mousse with a floral, toasty, nutty, anise, citrus rind, baked apple, toasty aromas, and a somewhat mature nose. Full, round, creamy mousse with good acidity and some brut sweetness but juicy. Nutty, creamy, toasty brioche, baked apple, honey and warm citrus flavours.
