Torres Mas La Plana 40th Anada 2010

Penedès, Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainIt's hard to believe Mas la Plana is forty years old. In 1970 growing cabernet sauvignon was a gamble but under the patient vision of Miguel Torres nothing has been left to chance. It's not hard to miss a cabernet sauvignon in a Burgundy bottle, dressed in black. First planted in 1966 the idea was revolutionary at the very least. A big wine in Paris in 1979 with the 70 Mas La Plana secured its future. Forty years later Mas La Plana can slide into nay cabernet tasting and hold its own. Is the 2010 the best yet? Maybe but at such a tender age it will need time to fully express itself. It has the blueberry, the cherry jam and the black currant fruit brightly focused as result of a cool, long growing season. The tannins are the best in years, small grained and polished with fine density and weight but all in balance. The finish a long affair with more floral, black berry, vanilla liquorice notes. The wine needs a decade in bottle to fully blossom.Tasted: 23 December 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
