Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2004
Champagne, FranceThis Blanc de Blancs exemplifies pristine elegance. For whatever reason, Comtes is always feminine in my anthropomorphizing mine. White flower and talc, citrus and Asian pear, refreshing and bright green apple, focused in intensity, yet elegant and nimble. A Countess. The 2004 vintage is no exception, except perhaps the Countess went to the tropics and brought back some exotic gooseberry, peach and a sliver of ripe musky melon to the palate. Warm spice, white peach and lemon zest minerality on the lengthy finish. 5 percent of the Chardonnay has spent time in new oak barrels, providing that shelly toast. Enjoy with oysters - a royal pairing.Tasted: 11 December 2014Tasted by: Prices:
Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2004
Champagne, FranceThe 2004 Comtes de Champagne follows the outstanding 2002 and it too is a good one. Creamy, mineral chalky, precise, elegant, forceful and still taut and high strung. The style is bright the fruit comfortably nuanced under floral, mineral notes with a twist of oyster liqueur. This is a brilliant bottle of bubble with the structure and breed to age gracefully for a decade and more. Über cool, über elegant and simply delicious.Tasted: 29 November 2013Tasted by: Prices:
