Dão, Northern Portugal, PortugalMOB stands for Moreira Olazabal Borges a venture of Douro-based winemakers Jorge Moreira (Poeira), Francisco "Xito" Olazabal (Quinta do Vale Meão) and Jorge Serôdio Borges (Wine & Soul) in the Dão. The wine is made from a leased vineyard Quinta de Corujão at one of the highest elevations 500m on Portugal. The blend is touriga nacional, jaen or mencia, alfrocheiro and baga. The nose is floral with plenty of red fruits and aromatics. The attack is dry with big acidity and a strong undercurrent of forest floor. The style is elegant almost pinot like and at 12 per cent alcohol it almost pulls it all off. In short, this is very much the new movement to fresher light more mineral stonier red wines not for the masses but certainly for the discriminating.Tasted: 26 December 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:BC | $45.00 | 750ml |
