Blue Mountain Gold Label Brut NV
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWill this be the year someone catches up to this reliable sparkler I think is a benchmark for everyday sparkling wine? Given its modest price and refined styling, I doubt it. Lemons, apples, and subtle red berries spearhead a palate of toasted hazelnuts and early morning bakery notes. It spends two full years on its lees, constructing texture and mouthfeel that adds enough complexity to please the serious bubble drinker without scaring the novice. The dosage is more or less 8 g/L, adding to its drinkability upon bottling, but I have enjoyed many bottles aged three to five more years and beyond. A bubble for any occasion.Tasted: 11 October 2023Tasted by: Prices:BC | $31.90 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |

Blue Mountain Gold Label Brut NV
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Blue Mountain Gold Label Brut continues to set the benchmark for Canadian sparkling wine, consistently outperforming wines double its price. Based on the 2019 vintage, this bottling shows exceptional complexity, with crystalline lemon, yellow apple, and red berry fruit framed by generous brioche notes alongside toasted spice and hazelnut. There's a depth here that belies its youthfulness and 24 months on lees, and it'll be fascinating to see how this evolves. There's no need to wait, but we have a hunch this will reward careful cellaring over the next 3-4 years. The dosage is consistent with previous vintages (8 g/L in a traditional Brut style). Still, this vintage feels more forward – at least to this palate – making it well-suited to pair with canapés and hors d'oeuvres, especially as we head into the holiday season.Tasted: 28 November 2023Tasted by: Prices:BC | $31.90 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |

Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe latest gold label is based on the cooler 2019 vintage and mixes 65/35 pinot noir and chardonnay aged two years on its lees (disgorged August 2021). It’s no secret we like this wine at GOW because it is so consistent, and few if any, other sparklers in this range deliver so much quality for the price. The secret sauce is the reserve wine, aged in 2000L oak casks. It crafts the consistent style year in and year out. Expect mineral, flinty, pure green and red apple with a hint of toasted almond. Pop the cork. You won’t be disappointed.Tasted: 10 November 2022Tasted by: Prices:BC | $31.90 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |

There's a generous fruitiness to this vintage, with a combination of bright red berries, red apple, and lemon, which is complemented by subtle toasty notes. It's beautifully balanced, perhaps not as complex as the 2018 vintage, but with a lovely intensity and purity to the fruit. Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Gold Label Brut continues to be in a class of its own. Like I said last year, few, if any, sparkling wines can compete at this price, whether from BC or abroad. And the latest bottling, based on the 2018 vintage, is perhaps the best yet. A 62/38 blend of pinot noir and chardonnay (this vintage loses the pinot gris), this was aged on its lees for 24 months, before being disgorged and cellared for nine months prior to release. It has incredible depth, showing a combination of bright, youthful citrus fruit that's bolstered by rich, honeyed notes that suggest a judicial use of reserve wines. All of that fruit is framed by layers of spices, nuts, and toasty autolysis, which continues to evolve and reveal itself in the glass through the course of an evening, with an energy and tension that continually pulls you back in. Blue Mountain Gold Label Brut NV
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaOn a shortlist of what I consider iconic BC wines, Blue Mountain Brut has to be one of the leaders. It’s generally in a class of its own, but more importantly, it has spawned many imitators over the years, expanding the interest in BC sparkling wine. The blend hasn’t changed a lot. In this bottle, the numbers are 57/39/4 pinot noir, chardonnay, and pinot gris. Puncheons are used for a portion of the wine to give the juice a chance to expand. The secret sauce is the reserve wine, aged in 2000L oak casks. The Brut spends full two years on its lees before getting yet another six to nine months in bottle. That's an impressive gift consumers are not paying for, given the true cost of cellaring finished wine. Best of all is the freshness factor, and how this wine has evolved over the last two decades going from sparkling wine to a wine that sparkles. Expect a mineral, flinty affair with green and red apple, spice, with nutty toasted almond highlights that pull you into the glass. A great value and ready to drink.Tasted: 23 July 2021Tasted by: Prices:BC | $31.90 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |

Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis latest incarnation of the BC classic is from the 2017 vintage, and predominantly pinot noir and chardonnay, with its hallmark tip of pinot gris, and with 24 months on lees. My bottle was disgorged in August 2020. This showing is particular crisp and bright, with a nearly flinty reductive edge that chisels the orchard fruit. Green apple, crunchy red apple, flake salts, crisp pear lead the palate, one seasoned with nutty / toasty spices, and finishing with a wash of salinity. This used to be a dependable go-to BC fizz. Now, this has stepped up the game to be a serious sparkling. Well done Blue Mountain.Tasted: 26 July 2021Tasted by: Prices:BC | $31.90 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |

Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBlue Mountain is in a class of its own with this latest bottling of the Gold Label Brut, based on the 2017 vintage and disgorged in August 2020. Few, if any, sparkling wines can compete at this price, and with this level of seriousness. For those who have been following this wine over the years (the first review in GOW's database dates to 2003), the blend is familiar: pinot noir (57%) and chardonnay (39%), with a dollop of pinot gris (4%). A portion is fermented in puncheons, and the blend also includes reserve wine that was aged in a 2000L oak cask. It then ages on its lees for 24 months, before resting in bottle post-disgorgement for six to nine months prior to release. It's remarkably complex, with toasted brioche, hazelnut, golden pear, lemon, red apple, red berries, and spice. The balance is exceptional: rich and creamy, with real tension thanks to bright acidity and an integrated 8 g/L dosage, leading to a dry, chalky finish. Put the Champagne down. This should be your go-to sparkling wine for any occasion if it isn't already. Highly recommended.Tasted: 28 July 2021Tasted by: Prices:BC | $31.90 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |

Blue Mountain Gold Label Brut NV
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Gold Label Brut is a classic BC sparkler that over-delivers most every release, and has been instrumental in the growing cadre of sparkling wine producers around the province. Made using the traditional method, the 53/43/4 blend of pinot noir, chardonnay, and pinot gris spends an ideal 24 months on its lees. It is then allowed to hang around the winery another nine months to pull itself together after disgorgement. Just enough fruit to offset the leesy, toasty notes that give it the gravitas of real sparkling wine. The dosage comes in at 8 g/L, adding enough sweetness to balance any bitter notes, giving it broad appeal. It's a bargain at $28 and certainly sets the tone for a sparkling that rings all the bells.Tasted: 18 July 2020Tasted by: Prices:BC | $31.90 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |

The 53/43/4 blend of pinot noir, chardonnay, and pinot gris is aged on its lees for 24 months, before resting in bottle post-disgorgement for up to nine months prior to release. The pinot noir is quite forward this year, bringing red apple and crunchy raspberry that sits alongside golden-hued fruit. It has nice depth, and is rounded out by a good amount of toasty autolytic character. The chardonnay gives this a good amount of verve, though the 8 g/L dosage still gives a touch of sweetness to the finish. Blue Mountain Gold Label Brut NV
Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis has been a consistent performer among B.C. sparklers. Definitely sophisticated with a fine toasted leesy nose, creamy lemon apple flavours and a crisp clean finish. Restrained, but fun to sip alone or with a wide variety of appetizers.Tasted: 05 December 2001Tasted by: Prices:BC | $31.90 | 750ml | winery direct, private wine shops |
