Badia a Coltibuono Sangioveto 2009

Tuscany, ItalyColtibuono releases a 'Sangioveto' in the finest years paying homage to 'San Zoveto' the ancient moniker for the sangiovese grape. The fruit used ranges from 25 to 55 years old and it grabs your attention from the start. The nose is a tightrope of cedar, red and black fruit aromas. The attack is rich, the fruit satiny soft, flavoured with intense blackberries and spice with an enticing smoky/tobacco undercurrent. Love the elegance and power here - a Coltibuono trademark. You can age this a decade or serve it now with steak Florentine or a piece of aged, pecorino. The finished wine spends 12 months in French barriques and another 6 months minimum in bottle. Only 600 cases made. Tasted: 05 September 2014Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
